In 2019, Syona went to West Wittering twice. First time, the tide was high, the water was so close to the shore, the sun was bright - "Such a typical seaside resort postcard!" was Syona's comment. The second time she went there, the tide was low, like so low, the water could barely be seen at the horizon, the sand took over like a deadly desert and the heat was creating optical illusions. What seemed to be water, could very well be the sky, or maybe those clouds over there were the water… Ambiguity and uncertainty all around, except for this tuft of grass piercing the sand dune. “That is something to start with, when recreating the world”, said Syona amused and started painting it.
Artwork acclaimed at the “Royal Arts Prize 2020” VII. Edition, hosted in London by La Galleria Pall Mall and the Royal Opera Arcade (ROA) Gallery, from 20 to 29 February 2020.
